I was struggling to get clients consistently as a Graphic Designer untill I came across these key principles that I'm about to show you now. When i discovered and applied these key principles, I got a breakthrough and started having clients consistently. Below are the principles.
1. UPGRADE YOUR SKILL: This applies especially to beginners in the design industry. If you want clients to patronize you, you must upgrade your design skill to standard. You don't expect clients (especially high paying clients) to patronize you when your designs are below standard, unprofessional and doesn't communicate effectively it's purpose. So first thing is work on your skill and upgrade it to standard.
2. ADVERTISE YOU PRODUCTS (DESIGNS): This is were the business of design comes to play. A lot of designers only know how to design, but doesn't know how to advertise their designs. Advertising your design (which is your product) is very important if you want to get clients consistently. How will clients know the work that you are doing when you don't advertise your designs? It's through your designs that clients will know the work that you do. So make sure you advertise your designs on your different social media platforms consistently.
3. BUILD TRUST: This is another very key principle you must take seriously. because if clients don't trust you, they will never patronize you at all, not to talk of patronizing you constantly. Build trust in every area of your life, both onsite and online. Make people believe that you are a real designer, not a fraudster or a pretender and that will show from your social media profiles and portfolio. The way your social media profiles and your design portfolio is organized will make a client trust you or not. Let your social media profiles and your portfolio showcase your work, very clear, simple and detailed.
4. LEARN TO BE POLITE: An arrogant designer will never have clients consistently, no matter how professional you are. You have to talk to your clients politely, no matter how arrogant your client may be, because an arrogant client today might be the most calm and best client tomorrow. If your client offend you to the point where you can't take it anymore, the best thing to do is give them some chance, don't respond to them, rather than insult them, because in some cases they will realize their wrong attitude towards you and apologize to you. But if you insult them, they might not come back again, even if they later realize their wrong attitude towards you.
5. BE A SOLUTION PROVIDER: Don't just design for your clients, also provide solution to them concerning your work. A lot of clients don't really know what they want when they come to you for design and that's a problem. So you must be very smart as a designer to detect what they want and give them what they want. In some cases you can even tell them how their design supposed to look like. you can also tell them how their business can be visible, elevated and gain more customers with the help of a professional design that communicate effectively. When you provide solution for them like this, they will always patronize you constantly and even refer you to other clients.
I hope these five key principles will help you a lot as Designer to get clients consistently. Put them to practice and see the outstanding results you will get from them.
